Riserva Naturale Orientata Valle dell'Orfento
Visitor Guidelines and Code of Conduct

Regulations of Use

The rules and prohibitions extracted faithfully from the official signposts of the Parco Nazionale della Maiella, of which the Valle dell'Orfento Reserve constitutes a maximum protection area (Zona A), and from the regulations of the Reparto Carabinieri Biodiversità.

Notices and Ordinances

Ordinance no. 27ofApril 27, 2026

Partial reopening of the trails

Almost all municipal trails have reopened. Only a few sections that are not yet safe remain closed. The Comune di Caramanico Terme announces the adoption of Mayoral Ordinance no. 27 of 27 April 2026, which orders a further partial revocation of the previous ordinances issued after the exceptional weather events of early April.

Disclaimer of Liability

The Comune di Caramanico Terme and the Pescara Reparto Carabinieri Biodiversità assume no responsibility for any accidents, route errors, or logistical issues due to negligence, imprudence, or lack of skill on the part of the hiker.

Visiting the mountain environment involves objective risks that are neither predictable nor avoidable. By signing the form, the "Group Leader" assumes full responsibility for their own safety and that of the persons accompanied by them, committing to strict compliance with all the rules listed here.

The 12 Golden Rules for Safety

Hiking in protected areas is a wonderful and safe activity, but zero risk in nature does not exist. Every territory presents dangers: it is up to us not to transform them into real risks, relying on official guides or, if we go alone, focusing on preparation and responsible behavior.

🎒 🎒 Before setting off

  1. 1 Choose the itinerary according to our physical and technical abilities.
  2. 2 Pay close attention to weather forecasts and leave only if conditions are good.
  3. 3 Leave word about where you are going and the expected return time.
  4. 4 Wear clothing suitable for the climate and season.
  5. 5 Use suitable footwear, with a good sole.
  6. 6 Carry the necessary equipment in your backpack, thinking also of emergency situations, without overdoing the weight.

🥾 🥾 During the hike

  1. 7 Do not leave the trail and follow the signposts.
  2. 8 Using a map or GPS (even on your mobile phone) try to locate your position every now and then.
  3. 9 Drink little but often and eat properly.
  4. 10 Maintain a responsible behavior, avoiding throwing stones, disturbing animals and other hikers, lighting fires, etc.
  5. 11 Follow the evolution of the weather conditions and change itinerary or give up if necessary.
  6. 12 In case of emergency and need of rescue call 112 or 118; then try to remain available (in connection) and do not move.
